Three Simultaneous Events

In 2026, Türkiye sits at the intersection of three axes:

• IAC 2026 Antalya: agencies, private sector, and researchers from 50+ countries in one venue.
• D-8 presidency: coordinating eight major developing economies.
• AYAP-1 (Moon Mission): lunar orbital mission targeting 2027 — symbolically placing Türkiye in the "space-doing" tier.

Türkiye's Strategic Advantages

01 — Geographic Bridge

Sitting at the intersection of Europe, the Middle East, the Caucasus, and Central Asia is a natural advantage for GEO coverage design. Türksat satellites at 31°E and 42°E already serve this geography.

02 — Operational Maturity

Türksat, RASAT, GÖKTÜRK, IMECE — and soon AYAP-1 — give Türkiye a 20-year lead over most of its peer group. The biggest opportunity is to turn that experience into services.

03 — Non-Aligned Position

A NATO member that nonetheless maintains civil space contact with China, Russia and Iran — the only major country with this profile. Ideal for a broker role as the rules are written.

Risks of the Window

Opportunity alone isn't enough. Three risks stand out:

• Coordination gap: TUA, TÜBİTAK UZAY, Türksat, private sector — coordination is incomplete.
• Talent retention: training capacity is adequate but retention is limited.
• Message gap: "What does Türkiye want in space?" lacks a clean answer.

1. Publish the Türkiye Space Vision Document ahead of IAC (September 2026)
2. Establish a D-8 + partner-country multilateral space coordination platform
3. Solidify a private-sector–public–academia trilateral cooperation framework
4. Position AYAP-1 beyond symbolism as a capability demonstration
